Just like you wouldn’t purchase a piece of clothing without it being the right size, you shouldn’t walk into a jeweler and pick out just any piece of jewelry without trying it on first. However, if the purchase you’re making is a gift or you’ve decided to buy online, then you may not know for sure if the piece is going to be a perfect fit. The good news, though? You can determine jewelry size without having to leave your home.
Below, we’re going over how to measure your ring size on your own – take a look:
Step 1: Take a thin strip of paper or piece of string and wrap it around the finger that you’d like to get a size for. To get a more accurate reading, slide the paper or string up to the knuckle since the ring will need to be able to fit over it as it is taken on and off.
Step 2: Using a pen or pencil, make a mark where the paper or string meets.
Step 3: Unwrap the paper or string from your finger and place it flat against a ruler – the ruler’s reading is your ring size in inches.
Once you have your measurement in inches, you’ll need to compare it to a size chart to get the proper ring size – see an example chart here.
As you go about finding your ring size, keep the following in mind:
- The weather has an impact on how large or small your finger measures, so avoid completing this process in the cold.
- Always opt for the larger size if your reading falls between two.
- Remember to check your measurements! That means, complete this process a few times so that you are sure your size is correct.
Of course, the best way to determine your ring size is to have a professional jeweler like ourselves measure your finger for you, but if you need to determine the size before you can get to the store, this approach will surely do!
